ABOUT DAVID
David L. Chancey is a husband, father, granddaddy, son, brother, pastor, writer, runner, Braves fan, Georgia Bulldogs fan, cancer survivor, and aspiring author. He has served as pastor, McDonough Road Baptist Church, Fayetteville, Georgia, for over twenty years. Previously, he served Cool Springs Baptist Church, Tate, Georgia, and Carmel Baptist Church, Carmel, Indiana. He also served in campus ministry and denominational communications prior to the pastorate.
He loves to preach the Word, see people make spiritual progress, and help people come to Christ. He enjoys “just hanging out” with his flock, especially if it involves watching the Braves and eating. His desire is to lead MRBC to impact as many people as possible with the life-changing Gospel here, there and around the world.
This desire to impact lives led him to take evangelistic/church planting mission trips to Santa Catarina, Brazil, in recent years, where he witnessed over 2100 persons come to Christ and churches planted and strengthened. He has also preached in the Dominican Republic and in Nassau, Bahamas. He is leading MRBC to increased visibility and impact through partnerships with and ministry in several area local elementary, middle and high schools.
On the writing front, David has written a newspaper column for Fayetteville’s The Citizen for over twenty years. In recent years, The Newnan Times-Herald, The Union Recorder, The Alma Times, The Rome News Tribune, and The Eatonton Messenger also picked up his column. His columns also appear occasionally in One Christian Voice, Atlanta Christian Voice, The Christian Index, The Baptist Paper, and The Alabama Baptist. His work has been published in Reach Out Columbia, Living Real, and Palm Beach Christian Voice magazines.
As a journalism major, he loves to write. His desire is to glorify God by encouraging others through uplifting writing while pointing people to the life-changing power of the Gospel. He released his first book The Day I Nearly Met Dolly: Tales of Faith, Family and a Few Homeruns in November, 2019, and a Christmas collection, The Most Wonderful News You Will Hear! Proclaiming Glad Tidings at Christmas in October, 2020. David’s newest book, Marvelous Faith: Pursuing the Faith that Makes Jesus Marvel, was released in October, 2022. This book won first place in the non-fiction category in the Southern Christian Writing Conference’s Notable Book Awards contest. All three can be ordered on Amazon or by contacting David directly.
He is a graduate of Georgia Southern University, where he worked for the legendary Claude Felton, Loran Smith Senior Associate Athletic Director– Sports Communications now at the University of Georgia; Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
